Research Interests:

I am fascinated by the complexity of molecular systems and the fundamental principles that govern biological function. This interest has led me to pursue multidisciplinary research at the intersection of biophysics, molecular biology, protein engineering, and computational chemistry. 

In the laboratory, I develop and apply genetic code expansion technologies, engineer selenoproteins, perform DNA cloning, protein expression, and purification, and construct microbial systems for studying protein function and enzyme catalysis. My current research includes engineering human selenoproteins, developing site-specific protein modification platforms, and optimizing [NiFe] hydrogenases through targeted amino acid substitutions.  

In parallel, I use quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) methods to investigate how mutations influence protein structure, catalytic activity, and function. By integrating laboratory experiments with computational modeling, I aim to uncover molecular mechanisms that drive protein behavior and leverage these insights for protein engineering, biotechnology, therapeutic development, and drug discovery.    

Beyond research, I enjoy mentoring undergraduate students and communicating scientific concepts to broader audiences. I believe that impactful science relies not only on technical expertise but also on collaboration, mentorship, and effective communication.
