Policy on transfers between sections of multi-section courses

Policy on transfers between sections of multi-section courses

The following departmental policy governs student requests to transfer between sections of multi-section courses:

  1. During Registration and Drop/Add Periods:  If a section of a multi-section course reaches its maximum enrollment during registration or drop/add periods, the department will not honor individual student requests to override them into that section.  Instructors receiving such requests should politely tell the student that they cannot approve the request, for any reason, due to departmental policy, and should encourage the student to continue monitoring Athena for new openings in that section.
  2. During the Semester:  Students may not transfer between sections of a multi-section course after the first exam has been given in either section.  Prior to that point, students will only be permitted to transfer between sections of a multi-section course if there is a truly compelling, documentable reason.
