Dr. Simona Hunyadi Murph was awarded 2023 TMS Brimacombe Medal for cutting-edge scientific and engineering innovation of anisotropic and shape-selective nanomaterials, extraordinary effort in developing the next generation of leaders, and dedicated service to The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). Prof. Mostafa El-Sayed from Georgia Institute of Technology nominated her for this prestigious award (photo below -right). Dr. Murph is an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Physics and Astronomy. She is currently a Fellow Scientist at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) and the Technical Liaison for the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management, Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP). TMS is a global professional society that connects minerals, metals, and materials scientists and engineers (around 13,000 members) from more than 70 countries on 6 continents. This mid-career award recognizes individuals with sustained excellence and achievement in business, technology, education, public policy, or science related to materials science and engineering and with a record of continuing service to the profession. J. Keith Brimacombe was an innovative giant in the field of materials process engineering during the later quarter of the 20th century.
